Understand the client’s brand before working on logo design

Do not take your company logo as a simple image. More than that, the viewers or customers take it as an introduction to a brand and so they will form an opinion of your business based on the impression they get from your logo.

Keep this in mind that the logo you are designing is intended to reach to a specific audience. This tip must guide you prominently in every stage of creating the logo.

So, do what most of the professional and reputed logo designers are known for. They first of all know all that is to be known about the brand. Many of them will even create a mood board to sketch some imagery in order to remind about the brand’s ideology. There are websites dedicated entirely to the tips for inspirations.

However, when sampling the logos for inspiration, you should not lose your focus by overemphasizing on their aesthetics. Instead, it would be more useful to know the deeper meaning that a great logo has designed in it.

So, when researching your brand for logo design, find out if the brand is more driven by utility or is it focused more on evoking some emotions from the customers? Find out how much the brand is contemporary? You must also know about the customers’ expectations from the brand and what are the aspirations of the company? You can make a quick brand personality assessment of your client’s brand here to get more help.

Another important aspect is to understand what your logo means. Talk to your client and know about the company history and purpose. This should be reflected through the logo design. Every global logo has a meaning. A logo may be a simple design but it should not miss the purpose of its creation.
